Blogging!

Welcome to my new blog for our adventures in Africa. We are now into our fourth week here, having spent the first in Zambia and now three in Cape Town. This is a very special week as our two sons, Adam and Peter arrived from the UK on Saturday. They hit the ground running, as the saying goes...and we havn't stopped since! Actually we did allow Pete a short nap, whilst Adam wanted to buy some cheap tennis rackets, so we could use the tennis court at the bottom of the garden. Later in the afternoon, when it was a little cooler, we all played, taking turns by letting the winner stay on. It was great and the most exercise Andy and I had had in weeks.

Adam has several friends who are either South African or have visited Cape Town, so he came fully researched and raring to go! A restaurant chain called Cattle Baron in Durbanville was high on his list of recommended culinary challenges, and so we located it, tucked away in a side street.

On Sunday we made our way into the city to the Waterfront, to check out various activities they want to do during their brief stay here. It was a very hot day and clear blue skies made plenty of sunscreen a must. One option was an ariel view of the city in a helicopter, which after much discussion and attempts to lower the price, we finally decided that it was the perfect weather for it, so why not now, rather than waiting until later in the week. this was a fantastic experience and Pete quickly opted for the front seat, taking a short video sequence of the take off, on the camera. Beside all the beautiful views of the mountain and beaches on both sides of the peninsula, we saw two fire helicopters filling buckets from the sea and putting out a bush fire. The pilot said he wished he'd brought his camera, as it was quite a spectacular sight.

Spider

This large furry friend was waiting on the bannister to greet us on Saturday morning, just before we left to pick up Adam and Peter from the airport. By the way, they are harmless, and good for consuming mozzies.
